Condensing vs. non-condensing — the short version

A condensing tankless water heater captures extra heat from its own exhaust to reach higher efficiency, while a non-condensing unit vents that heat and trades some efficiency for a simpler, lower-cost installation.

Which one we spec for your San Jose home comes down to four things we check on site: whether there is a clean path for plastic venting, whether a condensate line can reach a drain, what the gas line can actually carry, and where you want the unit to live. Non-condensing units trade a little efficiency for a simpler install. When a house already has a usable metal vent path, or the unit is going on an exterior wall, this is often the cleaner answer.

The NHW-A was the first non-condensing tankless to carry ComfortFlow — a recirculation pump and buffer tank inside the cabinet.
